Newsletter 30th January 2010

Jan 31st, 2010 | By pat | Category: Newsletter

Tuesday this week – 2nd February – is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.

Mass and the Blessing of Candles will be at 9.30am

         “I am home in heaven dear ones, oh so happy, and so bright!

There is perfect joy and beauty in this everlasting light

All the pain and grief is over, all this restless tossing passed;

I am now at peace forever, Safely home in Heaven at last”

These may seem like simple words, but to me and my sister, they are a comfort knowing that our dad is now at peace.

My Name is Clare Gallagher and On the 3rd October 2004, My mum Rose, Sister Josephine and I sadly lost our dad to cancer of the osephougus . He was 64.  He lived his life to the full and we could spend hours regaling you with stories full of joy and laughter which would have many of you in stitches of laughter.

We write with a very specific story. We would like to tell you about his last few days with us and those who made it easier for him and us his daughters.

Trinity Hospice sits just off Clapham Common North side. An unassuming building but with a lot of magic and comfort on the inside. This is the place where our dad spent his last few days. The staff were friendly, sympathetic, ready to listen and treated him with the utmost respect.  They comforted him when he was frightened and we can’t recall ever being asked to leave because ‘visiting hours were over’.  Although only there for a short time, we know that he was happy and at peace when he died and it was this special place that made it possible.

“Trinity’s specialist nursing care supports 2,000 dying people every year enabling them to lives their lives with dignity, free from unnecessary pain and anxiety.  We help families and friends to cope too.  It will cost nearly £8 million to provide these vital services this year and, with an aging population, we face ever increasing demands. Just one third of our funding comes from the NHS, which means we rely heavily on voluntary support”.

Trinity Hospice serves the people of Holy Apostles and the community here in Pimlico. It is where many of our fellow parishioners lived out their final days in this world till God called them. It is for this reason that we ask all of you to help us. My sister and I are doing a charity Skydive on Saturday 27th February 2010 in Co. Kildare, Ireland. Our chosen charity is Trinity Hospice and we both hope to raise £1000 for this wonderful place.

“Your gift could mean so much to a patient of Trinity, or to someone who has lost a loved one”

Please give what you can. The smallest of amounts make the largest difference once added up. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your support.

We would also like to thank Father Pat for his all his help and support, especially for all the help and comfort he has offered our mum from even before the time of our dad’s death and in the years since. We also want to say a big thank you for allowing us to fund-raise in the parish. We will be at the back of the Church next sunday after Masses asking for sponsorship.  Please feel free to give me a call if you would like to know more, and supporting the Trinity Hospice.

Thank you
