Dear Friends,
What a great response to the Haiti appeal in the parish last Sunday! One little boy went home from Mass last Sunday and baked biscuits (I imagine with mum and dads help) and then went door to door selling them for Haiti – never did anyone get so much for a few biscuits. HE made £50 which his auntie heard about and then got her company to match, giving the little man a total of £100!
Our parish collection stands at £2,155.00. One of our parishioners has promised to match that amount with another £2,000 and another parishioner has donated £10,000. These last two large amounts plus a significant amount of the parish collection has also been Gift Aided which means we can claim an extra amount from the inland revenue, of above £2,500 – giving us a total so far which will be in excess of £16,500.00. Well done everybody and Thank You. The fund is still open for anyone else who still wants to donate.
Oh, and by the way, (Let me quote Robert Peston’s Blog here) we’re about to learn from Goldman Sachs whether compensation (bonuses, pay and benefits) for its 31,700 employees will be a bit more or a bit less than $20bn (of which about half would be bonuses) for their performance over the past year. And here’s an interesting and resonant statistic about the balance of financial power in the world: just one thirtieth of what Goldman is likely to pay its staff is equivalent to all the debt (of $641m) that Haiti owes the rest of the world.
What a mad world! There is certainly something wrong. No, SINFUL is the word.
A number of people have been asking about a pilgrimage to Lourdes this year. I have done some homework and I suggest we go on Saturday 12th June and come back Thursday 17th. We can fly Ryanair to Pau and take a coach from there to Lourdes – it is about an hour away. We will stay at our usual hotel “The Myosotis” full board for 47 euros a night. Rather than do a group booking with Ryanair which can sometime be more expensive we will book individually, so the price will vary from person to person depending on when you book. At the moment it is only £40 return!!! But that can go up to as much as £200. I will need each person to be responsible for their own insurance. Please let me know as soon as possible whether or not you are interested in coming and want me to book you in.
Have you noticed we now have a library in the church? It is in the last confessional on the left hand side – just beside the crib. There are books on Prayer, the Spiritual Life, Theology and Scripture and anyone is welcome to borrow them so long as they sign for them, look after them and bring them back.
Will all those of you who are going please make your own way to the London Palladium Argyle Street (the extreme left hand exit from Oxford Circus Tube Station) and we will meet in our seats. It starts at 7.30pm. Don’t forget your ticket!
Yours devotedly
Canon Pat Browne,
Parish Priest

Volunteers Needed
Missio, the Pope’s official mission support agency, needs one or two volunteers. You probably Missio best through the APF Red Boxes and Mission Sunday. It is a very friendly environment, and they would appreciate help in packing, filing, and general support at busy times. It would suit someone who has an occasional few hours to spare and who wants to help the mission of the Church in a very ‘hands on’ way. They are based just round the corner at 23 Eccleston Square on the way to Victoria. If you are interested and would like to know more, please contact Mgr John Dale or Mr Peter Honiball or 020 7821 9755.

Do you want to tell us about your family, where you come from and what it means for you to be a Catholic at Holy Apostles? Are you in a ministry of the parish and you want to tell us about what it means to you to do this? Or, perhaps, do you want to tell us about what it means for you to be a Catholic parent, a doctor, a banker or a policeman? Then why don’t you write an article on “What it means for me…” and get it published on www.holyapostlespimlico.org. For more info contact Manlio on manlio_trovato@talk21.com or 07887 676034
